Second Stop: Hopdoddy

(From front to back) The Goodnight/Good Cause burger and the Llano Poblano.

If you ever drive by Hopdoddy, the first thing that’ll catch your eye is the unbelievably long line that  wraps around the building of eager Austinites waiting patiently for a Hopdoddy burger. When I first saw Hopdoddy and the insane line, I thought to myself, “Can it really be that good?”. The answer is yes, it can be so good that people are willing to wait an hour for their delicious burgers.

Hopdoddy has made their mark on the city with three locations in Austin:  South Congress, Anderson, and North Lamar. The burger joint stands out from the rest due to their commitment to serving the best burgers possible by making everything on your plate is of the highest quality. Their hamburger buns are baked fresh every morning, their meats are all natural and grounded daily, their veggies are cut by hand, and the ingredients are local and wholesome.

Hopdoddy located on Anderson Lane in Austin, TX.

Their devotion to bringing their customers the best food possible is obvious in their burgers. When you bite into a Hopdoddy burger, you’ll taste the freshness of the warm and toasty bun and the juiciness of the purest meat to make you finally believe that that wait in the long line was well worth it.

Their menu is small compared to Gourdough’s, but it doesn’t matter because they offer some of the best burgers in Austin. Their menu includes creative options such as the Magic Shroom, El Diablo, and The Greek. The burger I tried was the Goodnight/Good Cause burger which includes Angus beef topped with jalapeños, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, tilamook cheddar, hickory barbecue sauce, and Hopdoddy’s Sassy Sauce.

Hopdoddy’s mouthwatering Goodnight/Good Cause burger (Hopdoddy donates a dollar to a charitable organization with every purchase of the Goodnight/Good Cause burger).

With the jalapeños, hickory and Sassy sauce, the Goodnight/ Good Cause burger was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. The combination of all the strong and spicy flavors made the burger incredibly good and unforgettable. Even the fries that come with the burger are addicting with their delicious seasoning and truffle oil.

Also, Hopdoddy is known for their amazing milkshakes and every month they have a speciality shake. The regular shakes they have include Nutella and chocolate pretzel, Oreo cookie, vanilla bean, and chocolate stout. This month, their specialty shake is made with Chameleon cold brew, Nutella, and hazelnuts.

Lastly, Hopdoddy doesn’t just offer shakes and sodas, they have a beautiful bar with specialty, high-quality drinks, beers, and cocktails (for those of you over 21). They even make their own triple sec for their margaritas.

After eating at Hopdoddy, I highly recommend the Goodnight/Good Cause burger (to those out there who don’t mind spiciness) or another favorite of mine, the Llano Poblano. Their creamy milkshakes are a must to try as well as their tasty truffle fries.

Overall, I give Hopdoddy’s a 5/5 . This is an essential burger stop in Austin and it has become one of my favorites. The long line may be a turn-off to most, but what I advise to do is go to there at 11 a.m. when they open so you won’t have to wait in a line.

I’d have to say Hopdoddy comes close to beating Gourdough’s, but not close enough as Gourdough’s is still my favorite burger place in Austin. I think it’ll be very hard for anything to beat Gourdough’s donut bun burgers. However, Hopdoddy will always be one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. Stay tuned for my next stop: Top Notch.
